What are the top five priorities for the city of Corner Brook over the next four years?

1. We need a signifcant increase in housing stock, focusing on affordable housing.

2. We are lagging behind the rest of Canada when it comes to being green.

3. In terms of environmental action we should be revisiting sewage treatment, and finding a financially responsible way to include more recycling (glass and aluminum containers) at curbside as well as curbside and backyard composting.

4. Development of the waterfront, inlcuding serious discussions with Marine Atlantic around using Corner Brook as a port.

5 Investment, investment, investment. I know there are easy ways to encourage local business start ups, as well as encouraging big box stores to invest in our community. I would also like to see a more developed market where local artisans can sell their product without having to pay large commissions.
Finally, reduction or elimination of property tax for non profit organizations. We need to support and not hinder our community based groups!

Why are you running in this municipal election?

I am running because I feel there is a lack of representation from the “younger generation.” Corner Brook has been a great city to live in, and I would like to give back to the community…this is a great way to help!

Why should the people of Corner Brook vote for you?

People don’t have to vote for me, but I offer people a different choice. I bring a youth perspective, I am a socially minded individual, and I really believe that Corner Brook has so much more to offer this province! In time, “past the overpass” could mean Corner Brook (the Lewin Parkway!) instead of St John’s in terms of our services and resources. West is the best!

Personal Summary

I am a 32 year old professional, socially minded and work with the Community Mental Health Initiative, as well as being a volunteer. I have lived in Corner Brook for 4 years, and I have lived all over the Maritimes as well as in California. I have a great background in non-profit organizations and feel that my life experiences enable me to bring a different perspective to council.

Other Information

My goal is not necessarily to get elected, but I would like to be a voice for groups that have not always had a strong voice on council and for our vulnerable populations!
